INTENSIVE WORKSHOPS & Guest classes
Our intensive workshops provide fantastic opportunities to hone your skills and broaden your horizons within a particular area of sculpture, drawing and many other art forms. Damien’s 24+ years experience of teaching along the side with guest teachers is available directly to you and your journey in the visual arts! Great for beginners, someone who would like to refresh their skills, or for someone wanting to go to the next level!

About the class
The student is encouraged to progress in learning to 'see' whilst developing the necessary skills to bring form to the idea. The art & the craft are learned hand-in-hand & are inseparable in practise. Through this process the student learns about 'Truth to Material' - how an idea can be transformed into a particular medium & vice versa, largely determining the sculptural 'idiom' within the broader language.
The focus of the classes is learning about form, both figurative & abstract, through making studies & the development of ideas.
Technical methods covered are:
drawing
armatures
clay modelling & use of tools
plaster waste mould making
plaster & cement casting
repairs & refinements
colouring & finishing
direct plaster modelling
carving
fabrication
Some relevant Art History is also learned osmotically through discussion of examples during classes.
The learning is facilitated at each step in each process through discussion, demonstration, & handouts.
About the teacher
Damien Lucas began his study of drawing with the late David Wilson in Bathurst in 1997. Wilson then introduced him to master sculptor Tom Bass, which lead to the full time study and practise of sculpture.
He also completed his Bachelor of Fine Arts at National Art School, Sydney, in 2004, and received the Defiance Award for Excellence in Sculpture. He was awarded the “Highly Commended” Prize for the Ingenuity Maquette Show in 2021.
He has shown work in both group & solo exhibitions throughout NSW & his commissions are situated publicly and privately in Longreach QLD, Cootamundra NSW, Mittagong NSW, Sunbury VIC , Orange NSW, Coffs Harbour NSW, and Coopers Shoot NSW.
Damien’s 24 years + experience of teaching is available directly to you and will guide you along your journey in the visual arts!

5 class pass = $315 ($63 per class)
10 class pass = $550 ($55 per class)
20 class pass = $960 ($48 per class!!)
Private tuition = $70/hr
